Riot Games, the game developer behind the online multiplayer battle arena video game "League of Legends," recently revealed that a new champion is coming to the game. A recently released trailer called "The River King" was an animated short that told an interesting story about a creature called the River King who preyed on an out-of-luck gambler.

The trailer told the story of a Handsome Gambler who "owed gold and blood but had none to spare." He flees to a mysterious "sunken town" where he meets an equally mysterious creature who dwells in the river that also had an enormous mouth. The creature entices the young man to make a deal with him – he will give back his luck and in exchange, the young man will agree to bring the creature "to the finest tables of men" so that he can feed "his hungers."

The story continues with the young man getting back his luck, winning a fortune, and eventually marrying a beautiful princess. The River King claims his part of the deal by devouring all the young man's possessions, including the unfortunate young couple.

According to a report in Cinema Blend, a Riot Games designer took to Reddit to confirm that the trailer is indeed about a new champion that is arriving this summer. In the same thread, he talked about its abilities, such as how many passives he will have. He is said to have passive bonuses: auto-attacks from this champion knock target up for 0.5s; after auto-attacking, champion gets +50ms for 3s, and any enemy movement through river will trigger pings in a similar manner to Rek'sai, no matter where champion is on map. He will also have no knock-ups, no true damage and no execute.

His enormous mouth as portrayed in the trailer hints at one of his abilities, perhaps to devour his enemies. The River King is said to be the third champion to be released in 2015. The previous ones were Bard and Ekko, which both had different abilities as well.

Players in "League of Legends" assume the role of a "champion" and goes on battles against a team of other players or computer-controlled champions. Players must team up with a group of other champions, and they must protect their team's "nexus," a building located at the heart of the team's fort.

In 2012, the game was the most played PC game in the US and Europe based on the total number of hours played. According to a Wikipedia entry, over 67 million people play the game monthly, as of January 2014. That translates to 27 million people a day and over 7.5 million playing at the same time during peak hours.
